This workshop is designed to guide students considering or in the process of applying for graduate study in the social sciences. We will discuss the differences between master’s and doctoral (PhD) programs, what is required to apply, and how to prepare to be a strong candidate for graduate study. Participants will begin developing a Statement of Purpose in the writing portion of the workshop and later meet with faculty in their departments to learn specifics of graduate study in their fields.

10:00AM–11:00AM: Understanding and preparing for graduate study in the social sciences

11:00AM–12:00PM: Statement of Purpose writing workshop

12:00PM-1:00PM: Lunch

1:00PM-2:00PM: Meet with faculty in your major
