MORE ABOUT GRACE AND HUGH ....
The first time Grace heard Hugh sing, he was standing on a table in a packed venue, boots wedged between half-drunk bottles, bringing the crowd to their feet with songs he’d written alongside members of Fleetwood Mac, Midnight Oil, INXS, The Angels, Keith Urban, Lou Rawls and more. Since teaming up, the pair have travelled hundreds of thousands of kilometres along Australia’s highways and backroads, hauling their long-suffering upright piano and writing songs based on the true stories they encounter along the way.
In 2020, Grace and Hugh created Up Armidale Road, a unique music documentary project developed in collaboration with the bushfire-impacted village of Nymboida, NSW. Two renegade songwriters, a village full of talented bushfire survivors… and a song from the ashes. This led to a 60-date national tour to communities recovering from natural disasters, partnering with local organisations to raise funds towards recovery efforts. The project has received international acclaim- endorsements from Professor Daniel Aldrich (Co-Director, The Global Resilience Institute) and Maximillian Jacobson-Gonzalez (United Nations ITU), with the film winning Best Music Documentary at the Commffest Global Community Film Festival in Canada in 2022. Since 2023, Grace and Hugh have also teamed up with the NSW Rural Fire Service Association to tour a series of 25 live music events thanking their volunteer members for their tireless work. In June this year the pair were asked by the RFSA to perform the title song from their documentary, ‘Up Armidale Road’, live for 21,000 NRL fans and first responders at Allianz Stadium, before the Sydney Roosters' Emergency Services NRL Match. Channel 9 commentators called the song ‘the anthem for the 2019 bushfires’.
Between them, Grace and Hugh have often been noted as the festival director’s pick at some of Australia’s biggest roots festivals, and recorded their debut album between Sydney and Nashville with co-writes from Don Walker (Cold Chisel) and Bones Hillman (Midnight Oil). Grace’s powerhouse vocals pack a punch, accompanied by Hugh’s New Orleans inspired piano style that has backed some of the biggest artists in the world. Grace and Hugh are currently headed back and forth to the US, working on their first international release together.
