Governor Josh Shapiro
Josh Shapiro is the 48th Governor of Pennsylvania. He previously served as Pennsylvania’s Attorney General, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, and State Representative. From seeing his parents serve others—his father in the Navy and as the local pediatrician and his mother as an educator—to marrying his high school sweetheart, Lori, and raising four children in the community and traditions they grew up in, to a career fighting for the people of Pennsylvania, Governor Shapiro’s life has been grounded in faith, family, and public service.
Guest Jay Wright
Jay Wright served as the head men’s basketball coach of Villanova University from 2001 until 2022. During that span, the two-time Naismith National Coach of the Year led the Wildcats to six Big East Conference championships and 16 NCAA tournament appearances, including four trips to the Final Four and national championships in 2016 and 2018. Coach Wright was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September 2021. He is married to the former Patricia Reilly and the couple have three children – sons Taylor and Colin, and daughter Reilly.
About the Book
In Where We Keep the Light, Josh Shapiro, a leading voice in the Democratic party, shares powerful stories about his family, his faith, and his career in public service. From an early age, Shapiro learned and practiced the power of helping others, values which he carried through successful campaigns for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Montgomery County Commissioner, Pennsylvania Attorney General, and ultimately the Governorship, which he won in a decisive victory in 2022.
Here, Shapiro opens up about the toughest and most pivotal times of his life in public service – including: when an arsonist set fire to the Governor’s residence while he and his family slept inside, when he was under consideration to be Kamala Harris’ running mate in the 2024 election, and how experiences in his childhood shaped him to be the empathetic leader and pragmatic problem-solver that he is today.
Reflecting on what he has learned along his journey – knocking on doors, serving his community, and bringing people together to tackle the tough problems we face--Shapiro reminds us of the faith that guides so many and that there is more that unites us as Americans than divides us. Through it all, Shapiro shares the stories of the people who have impacted him along the way and how they’ve taught him where we keep the light.
