About this Event

Based on extended ethnographic research inside LGBT Pr*son units, this talk examines how spaces created to “humanize” the system mobilize gender and sexuality in Pr*son governance in Brazil. It shows how policies of “protection” can expand rights claims while also legitimating carceral growth and intensifying everyday violence.
