Gorstey Lea are a genre-blurring, emotionally-charged band drawing inspiration from a wide sweep of their influences – from the punk and ska of The Clash and The Specials, to the shimmering psychedelia of Echo & The Bunnymen and the poetic pop of Richard Hawley and Cherry Ghost. Key tracks, including The British Isles, Hollywood…Domino, and Dusty Do Good, showcase a sound rich in melody and mood, with heartfelt lyricism and cinematic arrangements. Praised by BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins as “a tonic for the times,” their music combines nostalgic nods with a contemporary edge, offering a dynamic, power-pop-infused listening experience that’s both immediate and timeless.
Formed officially in 2016 but rooted in a friendship dating back to the mid-80s, the band’s story is as compelling as their sound. After reconnecting at a Christmas gig, founders Michael and Russ reignited their creative spark, birthing Gorstey Lea Street Choir – a name that pays homage to their first meeting and Van Morrison’s influence. Their recent evolution into a full live band has seen them support acts like the Lightning Seeds and play festivals including Fuse in Lichfield. With new music on the horizon under the working title 'Whiskey Sierra Seven', and supports to The Bluetones confirmed for later in the year, Gorstey Lea continue to build momentum as a thoughtful, soulful, and sonically adventurous presence in the modern indie scene.
