About this Event
Good Light Productions presents
In Association with The Episcopal Actors’ Guild of America OPEN STAGE Grant
a presentation of two plays:
“BLACK AMERICAN WORKING WOMAN”
A play by Paula Ralph Birkett
“BLACK AMERICAN WORKING WOMAN” centers on Tamika Johnson's journey to positive self-perception. Tamika struggles with negative self-perception, or “vacant esteem"; a [negative] belief about one’s worth transmitted from generation to generation through the family, community and society.” Tamika’s vacant esteem holds her back at work and consequently from reaching for her entrepreneurial dreams. This solo show invites us to journey with Tamika as she learns to break free of the ties that bind her greatness.
“THE DANGER OF HOPE™”
A play by Morgan Breon
What happens when Detroit public high schoolers believe the newly hired Behavior Specialist is…a “witch?” The Danger of Hope™ shows the joys, pains, and struggles of Ms. Morgan while counseling 9th graders who have begun to see trauma as “normal.” When hope begins to crack open their hearts and minds, Ms. Morgan’s office might just be the most dangerous room in the entire school.
