About this Event

What is this event?

Students from Leeds City College have been working on the environment this year, and through a survey of fellow students found that deforestation was a major concern. So we invite you to join the Planet over Profit campaign and support the Good Business Matters Pledge.

What is Planet over Profit?

The Planet Over Profit campaign by Friends of the Earth highlights how large companies often prioritise making money over protecting people and the environment. It explains that everyday products like palm oil, timber, soy, and fast fashion are linked to serious problems such as deforestation, pollution, and loss of wildlife habitats. These actions also harm local communities, especially in poorer countries, where people can lose their land, jobs, and basic human rights.

The campaign argues that businesses often hide these harmful practices and are not properly held responsible. To fix this, it calls for a new law that would make companies legally accountable for their actions and ensure they protect both people and the planet.

To fix this, the campaign wants a new law in the UK. This law would make companies take responsibility for their actions and protect both people and the environment.

To solve this, the campaign calls for a strong new UK law that would force businesses to take responsibility for their entire supply chains. This means they must prevent harm, protect workers, and care for the environment. It would also allow affected communities to seek justice if they are harmed.

Overall, the message is that profit should not come before human rights and the environment, and everyone has a role in supporting change.

In simple terms, the message is: businesses should care more about people and the planet, not just money.
