Join us for this year’s Gone Fishing Day with a twist!Learn about an exciting new research project led by UNSW, looking to identify Posidonia australis seagrass seeds in Wallis Lake for future restoration efforts. Like a treasure hunt, but for seagrass.
Seeds of the Sea is calling on all anglers and water people to keep an eye out for Posidonia australis seeds/fruit when they wash ashore, snap a photo and upload via the QR code to an online portal. This data will help researchers and project managers to establish future seagrass restoration projects from Sydney to Wallis Lake. More seagrass means more fish for the future.
Gone Fishing Day this year will introduce you to the Seeds for Sea project, Posidonia australis as a species, show real samples and images, and explain how you can help identify fruiting sites in Wallis Lake for future restoration.
After we’re finished chatting all things seagrass, we’ve got some great workshops for the family lined up, hosted by the awesome crew from BCF Forster -sharpen your casting skills, knot-tying, and correct fish-handling before heading out for some lake fishing!
This is the first official event for the new Great Lakes Chapter, and we’re looking forward to you joining us. Join now or on the day to stay in the loop with future projects and opportunities for fish habitat restoration from Karuah to Wallis Lake.

Bring along your rods and tackle. OzFish will have a stack of rods, tackle, and bait available for use on the day for those who don’t have their own.
