With Verre Églomisé Artist, Miriam Ellner
Tuesday, September 30th at 6.00 P.M.
An In-Person and Online Program
The in-person program will be followed
by a book- signing and a reception
In this talk, Miriam Ellner will discuss her recently published book, Golden Glass: Verre Églomisé. Ms. Ellner is one of the modern masters of verre églomisé, the ancient process of gilding precious metals on the reverse side of glass, etching in a design, and setting it off with color. These seductive materials coalesce to enliven the surface of glass with luminous reflections creating moving glass paintings. She is one of the few artists who have mastered this rare art form, making it fresh and relevant in the 21st century.
The beauty of this ancient medium, which dates back to at least 200 B.C., is that it can be used to enliven any glass surface with a luminous, ethereal quality and transform a space dramatically. Ms. Ellner will describe how she has used Eglomisé in a variety of ways, both modern and classic, with applications including curved ceilings, rooms of glass, laminated doors, partitions and widow screens, tables, powder rooms, elevator cabs and original glass paintings.
In a presentation that showcases some of the stunning images captured in her book, Ms. Ellner will provide an overview of her process, personal work, and commissions with many leading interior designers and architects.
The Golden Glass book also contains reflections from her collaborators, coupled with hundreds of incredible photographs, as well as Ms. Ellner’s own insights into her decades-long practice. Her work enhances private collections and design projects around the world.
As a designer, Miriam Ellner’s skills are widely recognized and have led to exceptional collaborations with world renowned interior designers and architects. Her artistic integrity and vision have enriched high profile projects from San Francisco to Moscow. She has been featured in numerous publications, including Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, Galerie, Luxe and Interior Design. Ms. Ellner is a recipient of a 2013 Arthur Ross Award from the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art.
