UPDATE: This round of the GGPC has been moved to the following weekend, Mar. 28th & 29th.The Golden Gaunt Painting Contest has been our annual celebration of the hobby for 16 of the last 19 years. It has changed over time from a simple celebration of the Golden Daemon painting contests held at bigger events the world over, to being a showcase of the talent in Winnipeg.
We are proud to announce the 2026 rounds of the Golden Gaunt Painting Contest!
The Golden Gaunt returns this year with its three round format spaced out across the calendar year. Each round will focus on one game system and be divided into a Battle Ready Category and a Parade Ready Category, (details on these in a bit).
The three rounds will be: Warhammer 40K ̶M̶a̶r̶.̶ ̶2̶1̶s̶t̶ ̶ ̶&̶ ̶2̶2̶n̶d̶,
DATE MOVED: March 28th & 29th.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar June 13th & 14th, and Boxed Games Sept. 19th & 20th, aka: Specialist Games, and will include all miniatures from games such as Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Warhammer Underworlds, the Warhammer Quest titles, Warcry, K*ll Team and Legions Imperialis. As well as the Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game, The Horus Heresy game (aka: 30K), Warhammer: The Old World and all Forge World Miniatures.
The Battle Ready Category will be for those painters who mostly paint for the table top and to play the games. The judging criteria will focus on how good it will look on the gaming table at the customary “arms length away”.
The Parade Ready Category is for the hobbyist who will present the best work they can produce. These entries will be judged with a greater in depth criteria. Where all elements of the miniatures construction & painting will be evaluated.
This format will allow hobbyists to choose where they focus their efforts and simplify running the contest. So stop in and let us know what you are going to paint for your entry into this year's Golden Gaunt Painting Contest.
