About this Event

Wild Ones Central North Carolina Chapter is proud to present this very informative lecture by renowned landscape designer Kathy Johnson. The title of this presentation is: Go with the Flow: StormWater Management Techniques for the Home Landscape.

Kathy will talk about the environmental issues that lead to stormwater problems in the home landscape and then talk about specific solutions and techniques that can be applied to residential properties. She will also talk about the role of plants in solving stormwater problems, and provide a list of plants to use in situations such as rain gardens. Kathy Johnson has been a Forsyth County Master Gardener for the last seven years, and was previously an Extension Master Gardener with Transylvania County in Western North Carolina for twelve years. Kathy is also a retired professional landscape designer, with certificates in Landscape Design and Woody Plants from George Washington University. Her work, with the business name Wildwood Design, was primarily performed in the Brevard, NC region. Kathy made her career change as she wound down her first career as a software engineer and IT manager with the Food and Drug Administration. After moving to Brevard, North Carolina, a "temperate rainforest", Kathy encountered many stormwater issues in her landscape design work. To appropriately resolve these issues, she took classes in Low Impact Development and storm water management techniques which led her to design and install numerous rain gardens, dry streams, and other solutions . Kathy is also a grandmother of four, and is encouraging the little ones to learn gardening and the love of plants.

This event is free. However, registration is required because seating is limited. The Eventbrite registration link is in the comment section. For more information contact Siham Muntasser: [email protected].
