Design. Build. Glow. Photograph. In this immersive, hands-on workshop, students explore the science and engineering behind things that glow—then use light as a creative tool. Participants experiment with LEDs, phosphorescent materials, and fiber optics, learning how light behaves and how it can be shaped through design choices like brightness, color, diffusion, and placement.
Students will build and test simple glow systems, compare how different materials “charge” and emit light, and experiment with effects such as glowing patterns, light piping, and layered diffusion. Once their systems are working, they’ll shift into light photography, using long-exposure techniques to capture motion and light trails—creating images like spirals, streaks, “orb” effects, and abstract glowing designs.
This workshop blends science, engineering, and visual art in a fast-moving, creative format that’s welcoming to all experience levels. Students leave with a stronger understanding of how glow effects are created and controlled, plus a set of striking photos they made themselves. Lunch is included.
