In honor of the Global Day of Unplugging, the Escanaba Public Library invites the community to disconnect from screens and reconnect with each other at a special unplugged event on March 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This free, family-friendly event offers something for everyone: board games, puzzles, crafts, art activities, and snacks - all without the distraction of devices.
The Ink Society, the local writers' group, will host a meeting during this event and welcomes anyone interested in writing to join the discussion.
Members of Fiber Arts a la Carte, the library's fiber arts group, will be on hand with their latest projects. Curious about crochet, knitting or other fiber arts? Yarn, hooks, needles, and instructional books will be available for beginners who want to try their hand at fiber arts.
For creative minds, a fold-your-own origami station will be set up, along with a window painting station designed especially for children. Attendees can even create their own handmade phone bag- the perfect place to stash devices during the event.
Board games, card games, and refreshments will be available throughout the event.
"We're excited to offer this unplugged event for our community," Brianna Ecklid-LaVigne, Youth Services Specialist said. "In a world that feels increasingly disconnected, we wanted to create something that encourages people to gather, have fun, and connect with others. Whether you stop in for a few minutes or a few hours, we hope you'll find something creative and enjoyable to do."
The Global Day of Unplugging event takes place at the Escanaba Public Library. The library is located at 400 Ludington Street in Escanaba. Questions about the event can be directed to Brianna Ecklid-LaVigne by calling 906-789-7323.
