The Beams Are Creaking is the inspiring, powerful, true story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German theologian who defied the Nazis and ultimately led an assassination attempt against Hitler. This compelling drama captures the Bonhoeffer legend on a rich theatrical canvas without ever sacrificing the very human story at the base of it. Part political thriller, part love story, leavened with moments of humor, filled with a compassion that reaffirms one's faith in man.

Are heroes and villains a social construct? How do you know in crisis who are the heroes and who are the villains? Who gets to decide? Can a moral person commit an immoral act for good? Is courage only a virtue of heroes?

The first half of the evening is a dramatic play reading or other performance by professional artists. After a brief intermission, the second half of the evening is a facilitated discussion with some of the artists and special guests to get the conversation going before the audience is welcome to participate or simply observe. The discussion will have a high emphasis on listening to and learning from other points of view in order to 'glean' richer and deeper understanding about complex issues and ideas. It's a forum for intellectually curious people who enjoy meaningful nuanced discussion.
