On the evening of Tuesday 8th April at 7 pm, join Dr. Mark Hutchinson for an exploration of Glastonbury Abbey’s role in national security between the years 1100 and 1539. As one of the most wealthy and influential religious institutions of medieval England, Glastonbury Abbey was not only a centre of faith and learning but also played a role in political and military affairs.Dr. Hutchinson will uncover how the Abbey’s wealth and connections contributed to the security of the realm during a time of shifting power and social upheaval.
Doors open 18:30, talk at 7pm.
This talk is held at Abbey House, Chilkwell Street, Glastonbury. Abbey House is not open to the general public and only those with an event ticket may enter the grounds and house. Tickets are not available on the door and must be purchased in advance of the event.
