In this workshop, participants will learn how to create a glass work of art that gives the illusion of depth using "Frit," which are small bits of sheet glass. Transparent and opal colors will be utilized in a bowl form, but participants are welcome to use any color variation they prefer. Each participant will receive a 4" glass bowl or plate to work with. They will be taught how to strategically place small glass tiles to create depth in their project, and then fill in the spaces with glass to mimic grout, although it is all glass.
The workshop will also cover topics such as the chemistry of glass, firing temperatures, and how glass reacts to heat. Due to the firing process in the kiln taking up to 50 hours in total, participants will be able to pick up their finished projects at a later date. This workshop is designed for beginners who have never worked with glass before.
