About this Event
Glasgow City Mission - 200 Year Conference
Join us for this special gathering as Glasgow City Mission marks 200 years of service. Two centuries ago, in this city, a young Glaswegian named David Nasmith responded to the poverty and suffering he saw around him with Gospel-shaped action. What began as a local response, with Christians working together across denominations, ordinary people entering streets, homes and places of hardship with compassion and faith - became the world’s first City Mission. From Glasgow, this radical model of urban mission spread across the UK, Europe and North America, shaping a worldwide mission movement that continues to this day.
Yet despite its global influence, Glasgow City Mission has always remained deeply rooted in this city. For 200 years, the Mission has adapted to changing needs, from early relief work and education initiatives to homelessness services, family support and community-based care. This conference is both a celebration and a call: to reflect on what was born here in Glasgow, to learn from the past, and to carry forward a legacy of love that listens, refuses to turn away, and continues to bring dignity and hope to those most in need, locally and across the world.
