About this Event
Coauthored by award-winning biographer Justin Spring, this memoir details the incredible life of Czechoslovakian-born Marica Vilcek: her work as a curator behind the Iron Curtain, her escape from communism, and her thirty year career at The Metropolitan Museum of Art where she rose to the tenured position of associate curator-in-charge of the museum’s Catalogue and Acquisitions Department.
Professor of Art History Edward Sullivan will be joined in conversation by Marica Vilcek and Justin Spring for an informal conversation about the memoir followed by drinks and hors d'oeuvres.
Marica serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees at the NYU Institute of Fine Arts and as a trustee of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She and her husband Jan have been generous benefactors of these institutions in addition to creating their own organization, the Vilcek Foundation, which supports immigrants in the arts and sciences.
