Giulio Tampalini and Daniele Fabio with the Newcastle Guitar Orchestra present Italian Guitars in Old Sunderland.Italian Guitars; Giulio Tampalini and Daniele Fabio with the Newcastle Guitar Orchestra
Music for a midsummer evening in the wonderful space of 17nineteen, celebrating the sunshine of Italy and the classical guitar.
The first half of the programme will feature baroque music from Italy by Vivaldi and Marcello, composed at the same time that 17nineteen was founded. This includes Vivaldi's popular concerto for two mandolins (now more often heard on guitars), and the haunting second movement of Marcello's oboe concerto in D minor.
The second half moves us into the twenty first century through Max Richter's reworking of Vivaldi's Spring , recently brought to a larger audience when it was used to great effect in the first series of Bridgerton. This will be followed by Ludovico Einaudi's Divenire , originally written for a summer evening concert in the open air high up in the Italian Dolomites, and the first time Einaudi composed for orchestra.
The concert will include a new work especially written by Daniele Fabio for the Newcastle Guitar Orchestra. Daniele is rapidly establishing himself as an important composer. His works bring influences from jazz, blues, flamenco and folk music to the world of classical guitar, together with a certain Mediterranean flair due to his roots in Calabria in Italy's deep south.
