GIRLS! THE TECH COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU! THIS EVENT IS ORGANISED ESPECIALLY FOR YOU! COME AND JOIN US AND GET INVOLVED!

I am delighted to invite you to our IN-PERSON "Girls Into Coding " event! It's a free event. Choose 1 of 4 exciting workshops. There will also be lightning talks to inspire & encourage girls aged 10 -14 to get involved in tech. Each participant can only book one workshop because they will run simultaneously.

You will be able to explore coding activities, robotics, electronics, physical computing and 3D VR using the Raspberry Pi, and the Micro: bit. This is a fantastic opportunity to use Python, Micropython (text-based language), and Microsoft Makecode while getting some hands-on making time.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION READ CAREFULLY:

If you book more than one ticket per participant, your booking will be automatically cancelled.

Please note that as this is a small collaborative event it may be necessary to move one of your daughters to a different workshop to balance out the number of participants in each workshop.

Please do not register your daughter for a workshop she has already participated in or your ticket will be automatically canceled.

WORKSHOPS:

Workshop #1: Grabber Robot With Micro:bit (For Ages 10 to 14)

Build a robot powered by the Microbit that can be used as a grabber.

You will build the robot, adding different components, and wiring it all up. Then program the robot using Microsoft MakeCode.

Experience: Basic working knowledge of block-based code but beginners are welcome!

Workshop #2: Build a hand-held camera. (For Ages 11-14)

We'll put together a Raspberry Pi, mini-screen, and a few buttons. Add a camera module. We'll program your camera to take pictures and review images. Add enhanced features, like time-lapse!

Workshop #3: Exploring Motors & Sound using the Microbit! (For Ages 11 to 14)

A super fun activity to measure volume and display it with a motor. We’re going to be doing some basic Python programming in this activity. You also have the opportunity to use the make code block-based programming language. So whatever your level, you have lots of options!

Workshop #4: Build a virtual environment & explore with your own built VR set! (For Ages 10-14)

Build a virtual environment using CoSpaces that can be explored with a VR headset.

You will build the environment which will be a maze and have objects that can be interacted with along the way. This will be achieved using the range of features in CoSpaces and coding blocks called CoBlocks to give objects characteristics.

Experience:

Basic working knowledge of block-based code would be beneficial but beginners are welcome! They will be guided by instruction sheets and a live tutorial.

Material needed: A mobile phone
