IN-PERSON Girls into Coding! At Sparta Global, London
GIRLS! THE TECH COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU! THIS EVENT IS ORGANISED ESPECIALLY FOR YOU! COME AND JOIN US AND GET INVOLVED!
I am delighted to invite you to our IN-PERSON "Girls Into Coding " event! It's a free event. Choose 1 of our 5 exciting workshops. There will also be lightning talks to inspire & encourage girls aged 10 -14 to get involved in tech. Each participant can only book one workshop because they will run simultaneously.
You will be able to explore coding activities, robotics, 3D printing/design, electronics, and physical computing using the Nvidia Jetson nano, BBC Micro: bit and the Raspberry Pi. This is a fantastic opportunity to use Python (text-based language) and Microsoft Makecode, while getting some hands-on making time.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY- THIS IS AN IN-PERSON EVENT
IF YOU BOOK MORE THAN ONE TICKET PER PARTICIPANT, YOUR BOOKING WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED.
THE 6 WORKSHOPS BELOW WILL RUN SIMULTANEOUSLY - THEREFORE EACH PARTICIPANT SHOULD ONLY BOOK ONE WORKSHOP.

WORKSHOPS:
Workshop #1: Train Your Robot to Dance with You
After building a mini robot incorporating an NVIDIA Jetson Nano, you will use Machine Learning (a form of Artificial Intelligence (AI)) to teach your robot how to dance with you. You’ll learn about machine learning, coding with python, and some new dance moves! The girls must be between 12 and 14 to attend this workshop
Workshop #2: Embedding Robotics
Use sensors & code to monitor environmental data and activate motors, lights & sound. The girls will use a range of electronic components, the Microbit and Makecode to bring this project to life.
Workshop #3: Remote Hands
Build a remote-controlled robotic hand! Add sensors to a glove, write code to send the sensor readings wirelessly to the robot hand. Then write code to move the fingers on the hand. In this collaborative activity, the girls will work in pairs.
We will pair the girls up. One will work on the hand, the other the glove. Or they can work together. They don't need to sign up together.
Workshop #4: Physical Computing with Circuit Playground Express
Use capacitive touch to make music with the Circuit Playground Express and a DIY cardboard keyboard, and code musical tones onto the board using Adafruit Makecode.
Experience: Beginners are welcome!
Workshop#5: Introduction to 3D Design, 3D Scanning & 3D Printing
A hands-on workshop using 3D design software. The main focus will be on establishing the basic skills needed for 3D modeling. Please bring your own storage device (USB, SD card, or portable hard-drive) to save your work.
LIGHTNING TALKS:
- Deborah Adewunmi - Using Technology to make Healthcare Better for Everyone"
After a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry, Deborah went on to teach herself how to code so she could do a PhD in Bioinformatics and work with genomics and precision medicine. But excitingly Ishe got introduced to web development at a health-tech startup and kept at it in her free time. She participated in a few hackathons, won them, and which made her decide to go into software engineering. She enjoyed building innovative solutions in the medical device industry and went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Health Technology where she focused on AI in healthcare and completed her thesis on “Improving User Experience for Users with Dementia ”. She is passionate about improving global health and medical care one line of code at a time. She currently works with an AI start-up in the IVF industry. She spends her free time writing on her blog where she talks about who’s who in the African tech ecosystem and building things
.- Singh Trupti - "How I stumbled into cybersecurity"
Currently a senior cybersecurity consultant in Marsh, Trupti has over four years of experience in the field - specialising in Risk Management. Initially she moved to the UK for her masters in Information Security from Royal Holloway, University of London, ended up in an Industrial placement student in one of the Big 4 consultancies (Deloitte) and has worked in the country ever since.
Prior to moving to the UK, Trupti worked as a software engineer for about two years in a telecommunications company based in India where her main tasks were to work on mobile applications for end-user mobile network financial transactions (such as bill payment, recharge, etc.)
She has a bachelors in Computer Engineering from NIT Surat.
In her free time, Trupti likes to take long walks in the woods nearby, read her ever-growing list of books, spend time with friends, and travelling to explore multicultural cuisines.
