Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!
Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events which are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together and take over the mats! Women and girls of all ages and skill levels are welcome to attend from any academy affiliation. We welcome beginners and don't require any experience. Our events are designed for 100% participation. However, we do allow parents or chaperone to accompany underage participants as spectators.
Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.
You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.
GIG Texas-Dallas Guest instructors: Chelsah’ Lyons & Minah Suh
Chelsah’ Lyons is a Marcelo Garcia Dallas 1st Degree Black Belt under Rob Ables. She is also the Owner/ Head Instructor at LP Martial Arts in Lewisville, Texas, She has 14 years experience of which she earned 2 x NoGi World Champion, 2 x NoGi Pan American/Absolute Champion, 2 x Fight to Win NoGi Light Weight Belt Champion and Black Belt Masters World Champion. Sharing this passion with anyone who is willing to spend time on the mats has become the life for Chelsah'. She is obsessed with positional set-ups that give you multiple submission options. She loves butterfly guard and slick guard passes, the beauty in a good scramble, pressure passes, and the energy that surrounds submission hunting in dynamic Jiu Jitsu.
Minah Suh is a jiu jitsu black belt at Marcelo Garcia Dallas. What started as a lunch time jiu jitsu class while her kids were in elementary school has become a passion in life and a dedicated nine year practice. She started competing as a blue belt and enjoys gauging her progress through competition. Minah’s notable wins include PAN 2020 masters purple belt open class and Nogi World 2022 masters brown belt division and open class. Minah credits jiu jitsu for helping find her inner strength and confidence, seeing the beauty in life’s unpredictability and how to go with the flow. She shares her love of jiu jitsu by teaching women’s only jiu jitsu classes and private students.
COST: $20 Min Donation. All Donations Welcome.
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE. ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL BE CLOSED 4/28/24 at 1:00 PM OR ONCE WE REACH CAPACITY. WALK-INS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ONCE CAPACITY IS REACHED.
Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and all sales are final. Doors open at 12:30 pm. Please arrive early to change and get ready or come ready so we may start on time at 1:00 pm.
