About this Event
Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!
Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.
Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.
You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.
GIG Texas - Dallas Guest instructors: Yasmin Soto and Jill Sandoval
Yasmin Soto is a trailblazer in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu whose journey began on the sidelines, watching her children train. Inspired by their dedication, she stepped onto the mats herself and quickly rose through the ranks, earning her black belt in 2015. Beyond her own accomplishments, Yasmin is deeply passionate about giving back to the sport—coaching kids in classes and tournaments, and empowering young children and women through martial arts. As both a mentor and role model, she continues to inspire others within the BJJ community.
Jill Sandoval fell in love with jiu-jitsu after discovering how much easier it was on the body than her first love, judo. She earned her black belt on the same day as her husband after 10 years of training in 2022 from Orlando Waugh. She found Girls in Gis, as a purple belt, in 2016 and has been involved with the organization ever since. “Girls in Gis really was the missing piece of the puzzle for me. In judo and jiu-jitsu, I was often the only female on the mats. Finding a positive community of female training partners has created life long friendships and opportunities for me to bring jiu-jitsu to women who may be hesitant to give it a try.” Off the mats, Jill has taught special education students from ages 3 - 21 years old for over 20 years.
