is a poignant story of a young girl abandoned and raised in totalitarian Czechoslovakia, blending surreal imagery with raw reality as she fights for redemption. Known as Girl America (Amerikánka), she starts as an orphan under communism, moving through foster care, juvenile detention, and, eventually, the upheaval of the Velvet Revolution.
But Girl America is more than a tale of survival—it’s an emotional journey of resilience, exploring the transformative power of hope. It is the hope of escape to a promised land—America—where her father awaits. How many times can you be knocked down, and yet, rise again? This is the story of that unyielding spirit.
Viktor Tauš is an avant-garde director known for his experimental storytelling and for being a singular, uncategorized force within the Czech cultural scene. His work is defined by a relentless quest to explore and expand the language of images, pushing the boundaries of narrative across a variety of mediums.
