April 1 • 8pm • Carnegie Hall, New York CityThis extraordinary evening at Carnegie Hall brings together professional artists, collegiate ensembles, alumni (of Mr. Souza), community choirs, and high school musicians from across the country in a vibrant celebration of collaborative music making.
The Tribe Jazz Orchestra presents Smith’s The Valley Wind and a newly arranged setting of John Coltrane’s “A Conversation with God,” conducted by arranger Lenora Helm Hammonds and featuring special guest artists The Sistering, Nnenna Freelon, Kate McGarry, Lois Deloatch, and Lenora Zenzalai Helm. Their performance highlights the intersection of jazz tradition, spiritual expression, and contemporary artistry.
The New England Symphonic Ensemble performs:
• Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland
• Gloria by John Rutter
• Serenade to Music by Ralph Vaughan Williams
The choral works are conducted by Jonathan Souza and bring together singers from California community ensembles and high school programs in a powerful cross generational collaboration.
The Ensemble Spotlight Series will also feature the Morrow High School Symphonic Band of Ellenwood, Georgia, conducted by Teddy Taylor II, highlighting excellence in secondary instrumental music education.
This performance represents more than a prestigious stage. It is a gathering of artists at different points in their musical journeys, professionals, university musicians, community singers, and high school students, united by the belief that music is an essential part of the human experience.
