Reflecting Through Movement and Music, Dances by Isadora and Catherine Gallant/DANCE Presents “GIFT: A Life In Dance,” January 23-24, 2026 at 7:30 pm at

Gibney: Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center 280 Broadway (entrance at 53A Chambers)

Using movement, film, and live piano, "GIFT: A Life In Dance” looks back over Gallant’s decades as a dancer, choroegrapher and keeper of Isadora Duncan’s legacy.

Featuring three works from Isadora Duncan’s late period (c.1921), guest artists* Marie Carstens and Lakey Evans-Peña join Ms.Gallant in performing these powerful yet introspective dances. The concert features Gallant’s longtime collaborator, Alan Moverman on live piano. Ms. Gallant will also perform a selection of the Brahms Waltzes, Op. 39 (c.1912), a spirited work from Duncan’s early phase. A short film reflects on Gallant’s personal journey in the legacy of Isadora Duncan: first at age ten discovering a book in her school library, encountering Duncan’s work on public television in 1976, and finally studying with teachers of Duncan’s technique in New York City—learning more than 100 dances and becoming a recognized interpreter of the work. A second animated film abstracts Duncan’s iconic silk tunic, with uninhabited tunics flowing and falling through fantastical environments of water, wind, earth, and sky.

Finally two recent dances, Stand (2025) and Late Echo (2022), both choreographed by Gallant, present her contemporary choreographic practice, distinct from Duncan’s movement vocabulary.

2027 marks the 150th Anniversary of Isadora Duncan's birth, which Gallant recognizes with “GIFT: A Life In Dance” to acknowledge Duncan’s formative contributions to the development of modern dance and those who pass on her artistry.
