FOR THIS THIRD CONCERT DEDICATED TO MAESTRO GIDON KREMER, KREMERATA BALTICA JUXTAPOSES ALL THE POETRY AND UNPREDICTABILITY OF THE MUSIC OF MOZART WITH THE WARM LYRICISM OF BRITISH MINIMALIST COMPOSER MICHAEL NYMAN AND THE HUMOUR OF RUSSIAN COMPOSER ALEXANDER RASKATOV.In his delicate piece for violin and orchestra, Five Minutes from the Life of W.A.M. (2000), Raskatov draws the listener into a world of dreamlike quotations dotted with subtle, playful, quirky playing techniques. The music from Nyman’s film Drowning by Numbers (1988) is a more intense, almost romantic vision of the Salzburg master, unfolding in haunting repetitions of motifs inspired by Mozartian moods. Two concertos for violin and piano by Mozart, accompanied by Gidon Kremer’s marvellous orchestra, frame these original compositions before a superb finale in the form of a festive, sparkling work composed by Mozart when he was barely 18 years old: the Serenade No. 6 in D major, also known as the Serenata Notturna.
