Brian Foster, Department of Sociology, College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences on his new book, Ghosts of Segregation: American Racism, Hidden in Plain Sight. His book features a collection of stories that demonstrates the significance of the environment, the buildings we enter, the roads we travel, and the things we are surrounded by, as part of the nation's collective biography. Foster will share his research that documents and interprets culture, folklore, and placemaking practices of Black communities in the rural U.S. South.

B. Brian Foster, Associate Professor of Sociology, Department of Sociology, College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, University of Virginia
B. Brian Foster is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia. As an ethnographer and multi-medium storyteller, he documents and interprets Black communities' culture, folklore, and placemaking practices in the rural U.S. South. His second book, , is a collaborative photo essay collection featuring the work of award-winning photographer Richard Frishman. Foster’s expertise includes the sociology of racism and race, place studies, urban and rural sociology, and qualitative methods.
