Experience life in Victorian times as you walk along the cobblestone Victorian street, complete with recreated shops, living areas, a school, and even a pub. Journey back through the centuries and discover the dark past of Kirkstall Abbey and how King Henry VIII targeted the area to wipe out the monks’ place of worship.
The Abbey House Museum is filled with reports of ghostly activity. Unknown figures have been seen walking along the Victorian street, with strange knocks and footsteps being heard in the shops and back street area. The upper first floor has been known to hear the sound of something being dragged and objects being thrown. The very top floor, known as the Abbots’ room, is said to be the place where a lone monk likes to reside, with shadows, touch, and groans being witnessed.
