On May 15th and 16th, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater invites you to enter a world of animated wonder when we open the doors to The Ghibli Film Vault, with a 35mm double feature of Hayao Miyazaki’s MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO (1988) and KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE (1989)!Japan’s Studio Ghibli has been delighting audiences around the world for four decades with their whimsical, enchanting tales of far-off lands, magical creatures, and humans finding their place in the world. We’re thrilled to bring you, for the first time on our screen, two classics from the Studio Ghibli Film Vault.
On Friday, we begin with MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO (1988), a tale of two sisters to return home to be with their ailing mother, only to find joy and adventure with the forest spirits and fantastical creatures who live nearby.
We follow that with KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE (1989), featuring a young teenage witch who settles in a seaside village with her cat Jiji, and sets about building a business based on delivery by flying broomstick.
Both films will be presented in their English dubbed versions, and the order of films will be reversed on Saturday night.
