In 1924 in Tasmania, a boy holds a gun, black cockatoo perched on the barrel. A young woman stands beside him, cockatoo dangling from each hand. Who is she? Through spoken word, music and projections, Jacqui Malins transports you into Gert’s world of river, rainforest, mines, sawmills, music and family.
Come and be mesmerised by a time-bending multimedia experience, where one woman and her remarkable environment are brought to life through the voice of a river.
This show is made for lovers of history, poetry, the lives of women, industrial heritage, Tasmania and the environment.

Jacqui Malins is a performer, writer and visual artist based on Ngunawal and Ngambri country, Canberra. Jacqui has performed at events including the Woodford Festival, National Folk Festival, the National Poetry Month Gala, and was an Australian Poetry Slam finalist in 2015. ‘GERT’, in book-form, (2025) and Jacqui’s debut poetry collection ‘F-Words’ (2021) are published by Recent Work Press.
