About this Event
Peter Bichsel (March 24, 1935 – March 15, 2025) was one of Switzerland’s most renowned writers and columnists. He achieved his breakthrough in 1964 with Eigentlich möchte Frau Blum den Milchmann kennenlernen, establishing himself as a master of short prose. Bichsel is considered one of the most important voices in postwar German-language literature. His work is known for its quiet observation, precise language, and keen sensitivity to everyday life. With gentle irony and poetic clarity, Bichsel explores themes such as loneliness, speechlessness, imagination, and the subtle absurdities of daily existence—often focusing on small, easily overlooked moments.
In this workshop, we will read, discuss, and interpret his short story Die Männer (1964). Copies will be provided by the instructor prior to the session. Attendees should have a beginner Advanced level (A2) knowledge of the German language to participate.
