Synopsis:
Nico is a feature film dealing with violence – with the indifferent violence women face in everyday life, with the targeted violence people face due to their ethnicity. Nico, brilliantly played by Sara Fazilat, has Iranian roots and Berliner bluntness. A highly appreciated geriatric nurse, she is well liked due to her constant good mood. Until the evening that she is beaten to a pulp by three young, racist Germans. From then on, her life is shattered. The film gets the viewer so close to Nico that one can palpably feel the psychological effects of violence, making the trauma almost physical. Sara Fazilat drags us with Nico through her fear, anger, or resignation; we experience the self-chosen isolation (as well as the truly rigorous karate training) Nico undergoes until she finally finds the strength for a new light-heartedness.
