The show will be a mixture of music performed by Law's trio featuring music from the new album, as well as music that has inspired Law and his band.
Gerald Law II and The Clutch hit the road to celebrate the release of Law's newest album, Who We Are. The project shares a message of humanity first through empathy and connection. The story of the album is told through the lens of many collaborators and Law is bringing the spirit of collaboration to the stage. The touring group features his trio with Arthur Brown III on piano and Daven-Roy Llewellyn bass. If you have seen Law over the last year or so, you've seen him highlight and pay tribute to the voices and trailblazers that paved the way for him. Continuing in this fashion, you can expect to hear sounds influenced by the likes of Langston Hughes, Stevie Wonder, Jill Scott, Robert Glasper, Erykah Badu, Common, and Luther Vandross, to name a few. It is a night that you absolutely do not want to miss.
PERFORMER BIO:
Drummer, composer, and band leader, Gerald Law II, built a reputation as the go-to drummer for jazz and R&B artists in Central Florida. If you’ve seen him play, you know why he’s affectionately called “the smiling drummer.” From his drum throne, Law drives the rhythm and elevates the performance of everyone around him. That includes his band of versatile virtuosos, The Clutch, who bring audiences to incredible heights with music that always grooves, whether simmering with soulful energy or exploding in creative improvisation. Maybe his famous on-stage smile comes from feeling so at home making music—or maybe he’s just happy to see us.
Arthur Brown III grew up in Inglewood, CA, immersed in the sounds of classical music he heard his father playing as a child. He studied classical piano during his formative years, but was bitten by the jazz bug early on. While studying piano, the sounds of Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, and Keith Jarrett were his guide as he implemented his learnings at church every week. Arthur resides in Orlando, FL with his beautiful wife and two dogs, where he is an active and in-demand sideman.
Daven-Roy was born and raised in Jamaica where his musical expression finds its roots. With early exposure to the sounds of reggae, calypso, ska, and traditional gospel, Daven fell in love with the idea of replicating the sounds of his culture through the musical instrument. In his teenage years, an obsession with African American expressions emerged, particularly geared toward the rich and vast sounds of African American gospel music. This sound captured his imagination and fueled his desire to develop his bass chops. These elements are hallmarks of Daven's expression to this day; he has a deep commitment to serving up music that feels good regardless of its genre.
