Georgia Parole Advocacy: the Basics

Atlanta Community Support Project (ACSP) presents and Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton hosts an event focused on Georgia parole advocacy.
About this Event

(ACSP) is an empowerment organization for people directly-impacted by poverty and incarceration. In partnership with Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, Women on the Rise GA, and attorneys at the Southern Center for Human Rights, we'll use this event to break down the landscape of parole in Georgia and build up community advocacy by strengthening our capacity for pro bono support.

In conversation with those who bring a collective expertise of the legal and practical aspects of parole and prolonged incarceration in Georgia, this event will provide attorneys with the opportunity to earn one (1) CLE Professionalism credit as well. The training will help equip legal advocates with the basic skills needed to engage in client-centered, trauma-informed parole representation. We'll give an overview of some recurrring dilemmas and legal arguments surrounding current parole advocacy, emphasizing the importance of respect, dignity, and empathy for those navigating the arbitrary and dehumanizing parole process, often alone and with little to no resources.

The training for this event will be led by Luci Harrell, Founding Director at ACSP, with support from:

  • Robyn Hasan-Simpson, Executive Director, Women on the Rise GA
  • Mark Loudon-Brown, Senior Attorney, Southern Center for Human Rights
  • Alison Ganem, Staff Attorney, Southern Center for Human Rights

SCHEDULE: Come at 9:00am for coffee and light bites; the event will begin promptly at 9:30 and end at 11:30am.

In addition to the CLE training portion, this event will serve as a kickstarter to ACSP's pro bono initiative, aimed at bringing race and class equity to post-conviction advocacy in Georgia. A more detailed outline of the event curriculum may be added as the event nears.

We invite existing comrades and new partners to come be a part of the solution!

NOTE: This event is free to any attorney in Georgia interested in learning more about the parole process and how they can plug into a collective of community advocates strategizing for desperately needed post-conviction support and criminal legal action that centers and promotes public safety. Tax-deductible are much appreciated!
