"Orwell's Ghosts: Wisdom and Warnings for the Twenty-First Century" by Laura Beers is an insightful reflection on the harsh truths reflected in George Orwell's works about Western society and political duplicity- themes that are not all that different today.
Join us for a riveting discussion with Laura on how Orwell's wide array of writings display ideas and warnings that can be applied to today's tumultuous political climate. Dystopian novels may not be too far away from what some societies are experiencing, and Laura dives into concepts such as free speech, 'fake news', cancel culture, and capitalism to explore that.
Laura is a Professor of History at American University, and we look forward to having her at Symposium Books on Saturday, November 16th at 1:30pm!
