George Amabile's thirteenth book and newest collection of poetry, Seeing Things, is a poetic journey through clarity and distortion, presence and memory, grief and wonder. Structured in three movements, Seeing Things probes what lies beneath the visible world. Whether contemplating the current political climate, examining mundane objects, or reflecting on past experiences, this collection traces the current of the river of life and the invisible forces and laws that poet and reader alike will never understand. From quiet elegies to fierce political commentary, from meditative stillness to the surreal, Seeing Things celebrates the fragile, persistent beauty of looking closer.
George Amabile is a poet and writer from Winnipeg. He has published thirteen books and has had his work published in over a hundred national and international venues. He has won awards in the CAA National Prize, the CBC Literary Competition, the Petra Kenney International Competition, the MAC national poetry contest, and the National Magazine Awards. His most recent publications are Small Change (Libros Libertad), Dancing, with Mirrors (Porcupine's Quill), Martial Music (Signature Editions) all of which won Bressani awards, and Operation Stealth Seed (Signature Editions) which won the Michael Von Rooy award for genre fiction.
