Formed in Sydney more than twenty-five years ago this trio brings together three of the most exciting, innovative, and experienced musicians in Australia. The trio enjoy a strong national and international reputation; having long been recognised for their engaging, distinctive, original compositions, and for the high level of energy and interplay demonstrated in their performances.

Performances by the Alister Spence Trio include: Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Vivid Festival Sydney, Tokyo International Jazz Festival, Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and Salisbury and Chelsea Festivals (UK).
The trio’s music has twice been nominated for ‘Best Jazz Album’ in the ARIA Awards, for their albums Flux and Mercury. fit was voted in the 15 top international jazz/improv releases by the WIRE Magazine (UK, 2009).
Not Everything But Enough, was voted in the top ten international jazz albums for 2017 by Music Magazine, Japan; and nominated for an APRA/AMCOS Art Music Award in 2016 for ‘Excellence in Jazz.’
The Alister Spence Trio released their eighth album, Gather, in February 2025 which has been described by Des Cowley in Rhythms Magazine as ‘the Alister Spence Trio at their finest.’
