Geocaching is a hugely popular, free global outdoor recreational activity started in 2000, often described as a real-world treasure hunt, where participants use a GPS receiver or smartphone to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world. There are now over three million active geocaches worldwide, hidden in both urban and rural settings.
A "First to Find" (FTF) in geocaching signifies being the very first person to locate and sign the logbook of a newly published cache, offering bragging rights, the thrill of the chase, and sometimes small prizes. It is considered the *MOST popular unofficial, competitive stat* in the community, often involving a race immediately after publication.
Jackson has an active caching community, with specific challenge caches designed to encourage finding over 100 caches within Jackson County. On May 23, new caches (hidden earlier this spring!) right here at our farm stop will go LIVE and anyone who finds them this day will be credited with a FTF!
