About this Event
Genesee Valley Wild Clay Gathering
Join Mike Carroll on an expedition gathering local clay. Harvesting will begin with a known location with easy access. Some of the harvesting is as simple as picking up chunks right off the field surface! Mike will discuss what formed the clay deposits and the known uses within the region. This would ideally be after a period of dryer weather. The window of time between winter weather and farming activity is a sweet spot for clay harvesting.
Participants should have:
- Good boots and work gloves
- A 2.5 gallon bucket
- A small shovel
We will meet at Studio Sales Pottery at 5557 Avon East Avon Road, Avon NY and carpool to the gathering location in Geneseo
The project will continue with processing native clay for creative work and firing and is made possible with funds from the Aid to Localities Program through the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts and The New York State Senate.
