April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time for our community to come together and stand up for the safety, well‑being, and future of our youth. In Genesee County, there are approximately 411 youth currently in out-of-home placements. Many of these youth are placed outside the county due to a shortage of available foster homes within Genesee County.P U R P O S E :
Increase the number of foster homes and homes for youth aging out of the system
Unite in spreading awareness, educating families, and supporting efforts that protect our most vulnerable
Strengthen partnerships across our community
How Can You Help:
Share prevention resources with your congregation or city residents
Host a community awareness event or speaking engagement
Encourage families to seek support and know the signs of abuse
Partner with local organizations dedicated to child safety
Promote the message of hope, protection, and resilience
HOW CAN WE HELP:
Provide evidence‑based prevention materials and training for community leaders
Offer speakers for faith‑based events, schools, and neighborhood gatherings
Connect families with local services, counseling, and crisis support
Supply educational toolkits on recognizing and reporting child abuse
Partner with churches, schools, and agencies to strengthen community protection
