https://art-meets-science.io/en/generative-art-summit-berlin/
The "art meets science - Foundation @HerbertWFranke" will bring together the world's most important pioneers of generative art from seven decades in an intergenerational dialog. It has invited more than 50 guests of honor from all over the world to exchange ideas about these multifaceted creative design concepts.
The starting point for this event on art and technology is Herbert W. Franke (1927-2022), the forefather of computer art, with his series of works "Oscillograms", which was created in 1954 with the help of a self-built analog computer. Until 1958 Herbert developed a series of more than 500 oscillograms with his analog computer, whose output was a self built cathode ray oscillograph. These images shown on its tiny screen of 5 cm in diameter were photographed with open aperture while moving the camera in front of the screen. Today, it is considered a milestone in generative art. The foundation will make this important series of works publicly available as part of the Archive Herbert W. Franke in ZKM soon.
From the 1950s generative art extended to digital art, to interactivity and virtual reality, artists began to work with different media, with the Internet, the blockchain and now use also artificial intelligence. Seven decades of development - and their pionieers will come together at the foundation's Summit.
