The Vermont State Archives and Records Administration holds state public records, many of which can help when researching Vermont ancestors. Of note, VSARA is lucky to the have the Nye Index, which is a by name index of the Vermont Manuscript State Papers (1777-1861). This presentation will cover the available genealogy resources at VSARA, how to contact us, and ways to request records.This class will be held in-person at the library, at 57 River Road, Essex from 10:30 to noon. Kara Koenig is the State Archives and Outreach Specialist at the Vermont State Archives and Records Administration (VSARA). Kara grew up in Southern Vermont, moved away for 20 years, and returned in 2021. She was previously with the Vermont Natural Resources Board and the Vermont Agency of Digital Services, and started at VSARA in 2023. With a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and a master’s degree in museum studies, Kara enjoys using archival records and statute to understand the history and people of Vermont. She is currently completing the Vermont Certified Public Manager’s course.
