Based in Sydney, Australia and lead by the iconic Kel Mason, this band of maniacal rock n roll miscreants has been blowing drooly-punk minds for the past few years with a rash of out-of-print records and ridiculous videos that have bounced around the proper channels of the internet underbelly.
A white hot set on the web-only Gonerfest 17 was greeted with cheers of joy, and ultimately re-issued as a cassette and LP. They made it over in full three-dimensional form for Gonerfest 19 and a completely unhinged US tour in 2022.
Now Goner is proud to unleash their new album -- Goodnight Neanderthal -- ten blasts of the spazzy lo-fi attack you know and love, full of buzzy guitars, cheap synths and earworm hooks that demand to be sung in the shower. Or in your car. Or on your bike.

1800-MIKEY (AUS)
A (mostly) one-man show from Australia, this isn’t the kind of thing you always see in punk rock. That said, the dude is talented, and this is extremely melodic and catchy fuzz-pop. The vocals take a little bit of a backseat to the instruments, which at first kind of bugged me. But I adapted relatively quickly and grew to understand that it wasn’t unintentional. Uptempo and poppy, this does remind me of some of the Subway Organization label bands from the UK in the late ’80s. Really top-notch stuff here. Of the ten cuts, nearly half are under two minutes, and none are over three. That’s a detail that always catches my eye (in a good way).
1-800-Mikey ist ein Solo-Projekt im Schlafzimmer-Stil von Michael Barker, das 2019 in Western Sydney begann. Die Musik von 1-800-Mikey wird oft als Lo-Fi-Bedroom-Garage-Punk beschrieben, mit Einflüssen von Jay Reatard und einem knackigen Power-Pop-Punk-Sound laut Flight 13 und Erste Theke Tontraeger.
