Alterne
Alterne is a Dream Folk trio consisting of Danish singer Ida Marie Jessen, Belgian violinist Oscar Beerten, and Estonian accordionist Maimu Jõgeda. Drawing inspiration from traditional music across cultures, they craft a sound that blurs the lines between folk, pop, and ambient genres, seamlessly combining these influences with modern pop songwriting in Danish.
Their debut album, released by GO’ Danish Folk Music the 19th of April 2024, has been described by RootsWorld as “an astonishingly assured, ambitious debut” with a unique, pan-European sound. The album captures the essence of Nordic melancholy while introducing fresh, contemporary elements.
With instruments like the violin, hardanger fiddle, kantele, accordion, and guitar, Alterne creates immersive, atmospheric soundscapes that draw listeners into a world of vivid emotions and timeless storytelling.

ColectivoAZUL, playing the Sound Promenade Project
The Porto-Helsinki Sound Promenade is an artistic project that expresses João’s creative identity as a percussionist, improviser, composer, arranger, and musical director. At its core, it intends to explore the relation between the musicians and the audience in a live performance setting. The live installation performed by the multicultural ensemble ColectivoAZUL uses the urban environment of Porto and Helsinki as inspiration for a concert where the audience is invited to walk and listen to songs and soundscapes during the path. The composition material is created based on a theoretical framework around improvisation over soundscapes of urban environments and self-interpretation of landscapes.
The concert features a dynamic interaction where musicians and audience experience pre-recorded compositions of sounds from both cities, interpreting the sonic complexity and exploring the dialogue between them. It culminates in a compilation of pieces that reflect the knowledge gathered throughout João’s artistic journey. The performance aims to raise awareness of the soundscapes of urban environments and the musicalization of sound and landscapes. It also seeks to reduce the emotional distance between performers and the audience, dissolving elitist stereotypes of traditional performance settings by creating an immersive experience and reshaping the stage into a live installation that generates its own unique visual environment.
