What if our yards could be more than just lawn?
Join us for the next Garden Enthusiasts Meetup as local gardener and Wild Ones Board Member Alexandra Lotero Vanderkam shares a welcoming, photo-rich talk on transforming a conventional yard into a thriving native habitat. Over the past few years, she transformed her property from turf grass into a layered landscape featuring a woodland garden, hedgerow, pond, and seeded meadow—now alive with birds, pollinators, and other wildlife.
In the spirit of this casual, community meetup, this session is less about “perfect gardens” and more about the real process: experimenting, learning, and adapting over time. Alexandra will share what worked, what didn’t, and how she approached challenges like deer pressure, site conditions, and phased planting.
Whether you’re just starting out, curious about native plants, or already deep into gardening, you’re invited to come, get inspired, and join the conversation. There will be plenty of time for Q&A, idea-sharing, and discussion.
