Experience acclaimed vocalist Anand Bhate as he guides you on an interactive musical journey through India’s classical, theatrical, and devotional traditions, brought to life with stories, originals and timeless melodies.
Drawing from a wide spectrum of Indian vocal traditions, this concert brings together devotional from classics to originals compositions in a single, flowing musical journey. Anand Bhate, a prominent exponent of Kirana and Gandharva gayaki, whose work spans both traditional and contemporary styles.
The programme moves through natyasangeet, including Gandharva gayaki and songs from the post-Gandharva era, alongside classical and semi-classical pieces, abhangs and bhajans from Marathi santawani, as well as Kannada and Hindi devotional traditions. Original songs performed by Anand Bhate for films and albums add a personal dimension, tracing a clear arc from classics to new work.
Presented in an interactive format, the evening is interspersed with engaging anecdotes about the music and its context, including reflections on his training as a disciple of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and his experiences as a playback singer in the film Balgandharva. The concert is anchored by Spruha Joshi, whose narration guides the audience through the repertoire.
He is accompanied by Aditya Oke on harmonium, Prasad Padhye on tabla, and Mandar Gogate on side rhythm, and produced by Smrutigandha, which supports the varied genres and moods that unfold throughout the performance.
