We are overjoyed to be invited once again to the San Francisco Botanical Garden for a second year after celebrating the overwhelming success of Gamelan in the Garden last Spring! Nestled within Golden Gate Park, San Francisco Botanical Garden is an enchanting 55-acre oasis showcasing over 8,000 varieties of plants from around the globe. Gamelan Sekar Jaya will showcase performances by our Jegog and Semar Pegulingan music ensembles accompanied by Rejang, Cecenangan, and Gambuh dance ensembles at the Great Meadow and Celebration Garden sections of the park. Our Semar Pegulingan ensembles will be led by our Guest Music Director Ni Nyoman Srayamurtikanti. Dance ensembles will be headed by our Guest Dance Director I Made Suteja. Our Jegog ensemble is led by Pak Gede Oka, and will also be hosting a free Jegog workshop after their performance!
Our Jegog performance and workshop will be free to the public, taking place in the Great Meadow of San Francisco’s Botanical Garden, while our Semar Pegulingan performances will be a ticketed portion of the event, taking place in the Celebration Garden.
Parking is limited at Golden Gate Park, other modes of transport such as mobile apps, biking or public transportation is highly encouraged. We recommend bringing a blanket and snacks to enjoy the shows! Limited seating will be available with priority to folks with mobility/accessibility needs.
