About this Event
GAMBIA: The Africa in April Dinner & Dance Party features traditional drummers, a celebrity DJ, and the festive vibes of a traditional outdoor chama*. For the inaugural celebration, we're returning to Africa in April's roots at LeMoyne-Owen College. Guests will convene on the Brownlee Lawn to honor Africa in April founders, Dr. David and Mrs. Yvonne Acey, and the rich and invaluable 37-year history of Africa in April in Memphis, TN.
A selection of food trucks will serve guests on the lawn, along with a cash bar. Sponsor tent guests will sample traditional African cuisine, curated by renowned chefs Phillip Dewayne and D. Arthur, and enjoy themed cocktails, curated by the Candy Bar.
About the Event:
The Africa in April Dinner & Dance Party became a part of the official event line-up for Africa in April in 2024. The Dinner & Dance Party takes place in Memphis at a historically-relevant, black-owned institution on the 4th Thursday of April. Each year’s festive celebration includes a featured African DJ, live entertainment, and samples of African cuisine for VIP guests.
Produced and styled by a network of black-led organizations and creatives, the multigenerational affair is an opportunity to break bread, dance, and make memories in celebration of the African diaspora.
Attire: Sunset Cocktail or traditional African garb encouraged.
Note: Gambia, the 2024 Africa in April Dinner & Dance Party, will take place on the Brownlee Lawn at LeMoyne Owen College. Guests, especially ladies, should consider the grassy venue when selecting shoes.
