Galloping Light: The Fire Horse's Lantern Lab

As part of a Lunar New Year celebration, participants will explore the symbolism of the Year of the Horse while creating their own glowing lantern using paper layering and cut-out techniques. Guided by cultural storytelling and hands-on instruction, this family-friendly workshop invites creativity, reflection, and celebration through light.

Registration is recommended to secure your spot, but drop-ins are welcome if space allows.

What to expect:
Participants will create a round lantern inspired by movement, energy, and renewal, core themes of the Horse zodiac. Visual prompts and guided steps make this activity accessible for all skill levels.

Who it’s for:
Designed for children ages 5–12+, with families and caregivers encouraged to participate together. No prior art experience required.

• How lanterns are used in Lunar New Year celebrations
• Ways to express stories and wishes through light and design

Good to know:
All materials are provided. Lanterns use battery-operated LED lights.

Meegan Lim is an illustrator and arts facilitator whose work bridges visual storytelling with community engagement. Drawing inspiration from her East and Southeast Asian heritage, she creates art that celebrates food, culture, and shared experiences. Meegan’s workshops are rooted in accessibility, creativity, and connection, and she has led programs for festivals, schools, and cultural organizations across the GTA.
